Your Privacy on TeachEdge

A child-friendly privacy notice

This page explains what happens to information about you when you use TeachEdge.

We have tried to make it clear and easy to understand. You can ask a parent, carer or teacher to read it with you.

Who are we?

TeachEdge is an educational website that helps students and teachers with questions, marking, feedback and tutoring.

It is operated by a company called Teach Edge Software Ltd.

What is personal information?

Personal information is information that relates to you.

It can include:

  • your name, initials or a made-up name used by your school;
  • your email address or account details;
  • your school and classes;
  • questions and answers;
  • work you or your teacher uploads;
  • marks and feedback;
  • your progress;
  • conversations you have with the TeachEdge tutor; and
  • information about how you use TeachEdge.

Not every TeachEdge account has to use a student’s full name. Schools can choose to use initials or pseudonyms instead.

A pseudonym is a made-up name used in place of your real name.

How do we get your information?

We may receive information:

  • from you when you create an account, answer a question or use a TeachEdge tool;
  • from your teacher or school when they create an account, class or assignment for you;
  • when you or your teacher upload work;
  • when TeachEdge produces marks, feedback or tutoring information; and
  • automatically when you use the website or application.

If your school allows it, you may be able to sign in using a Google or Microsoft account. Google or Microsoft may give TeachEdge the name, email address and account identifier connected to that account.

TeachEdge uses this connection only to sign you in. It does not give TeachEdge access to your Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, emails, contacts, Google Drive or OneDrive.

Why do we use your information?

We use your information to:

  • let you sign in;
  • connect you to the correct school and classes;
  • show you questions and assignments;
  • mark your work and produce feedback;
  • show your marks, feedback and progress;
  • provide tutoring conversations;
  • help your teacher understand how you and your class are progressing;
  • keep TeachEdge working properly and securely;
  • solve technical problems; and
  • improve TeachEdge.

We must have a proper reason for using personal information. We cannot use it for any purpose we like.

When you use TeachEdge through your school, your school normally decides why your information is used. TeachEdge processes it for the school so that we can provide the service.

When you have an independent account, Teach Edge Software Ltd is responsible for deciding how your information is used.

How does TeachEdge use AI?

TeachEdge uses artificial intelligence, usually called AI, to help:

  • mark answers;
  • produce feedback;
  • create questions;
  • provide writing support and scaffolding; and
  • run tutoring conversations.

TeachEdge uses commercial AI services provided by OpenAI. It also uses Anthropic for the Question Generator and Scaffolder.

Depending on the tool, the AI service may receive:

  • the question;
  • your response;
  • supporting material; and
  • instructions explaining the task.

Class Marking, Exam Script Marking and tutoring do not automatically send your first name to the AI provider. Quick Mark has an optional setting that lets the person using it include a first name.

TeachEdge has not agreed to let its AI providers use your work to train their general-purpose AI models. TeachEdge does not use your work to train third-party AI models.

Under some feedback, you or your teacher may choose to send us comments using “Improve the Marking & Feedback”. If you do this, we may look at your comments and the related marking and feedback to understand what worked well or what should be improved. Using this feature is optional. We use this information to improve TeachEdge, not to train OpenAI’s or Anthropic’s general-purpose AI models.

We may sometimes remove the information that identifies you and use an anonymised sample to check quality, solve problems, keep the service safe or improve how TeachEdge works. Anonymised means that the sample can no longer be linked to you.

You or your school can ask us not to use submitted material for this purpose by emailing info@teachedge.ai.

Are AI marks final?

No. AI can make mistakes.

TeachEdge marks and feedback are designed to help with practice, formative assessment and teacher-supported school assessment. They are not official exam-board marks or final high-stakes grades.

For Class Marking, your teacher normally reviews the feedback before it is released to you. Your teacher can choose to release feedback automatically instead.

Your teacher decides how TeachEdge marks and feedback should be used.

TeachEdge does not use AI alone to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly important effects.

Who can see your information?

If you use TeachEdge through a school, your teachers can see relevant information such as:

  • your submitted work;
  • your marks and feedback;
  • your progress; and
  • your TeachEdge tutoring conversations and summaries.

A small number of authorised people working for TeachEdge may access information when necessary to provide support, investigate a problem, protect security or follow the law.

Companies that help us operate TeachEdge may also process some information. These include companies that provide:

  • website and application hosting;
  • database and file storage;
  • background processing;
  • AI services;
  • sign-in services;
  • email delivery;
  • payments;
  • analytics; and
  • demo bookings.

The main companies we use are Bubble, Vercel, Supabase, Trigger.dev, OpenAI, Anthropic, Stripe, Loops, SendGrid, Google, Microsoft, Google Analytics and Calendly.

They should receive only the information needed to provide their part of the service.

We may also have to share information if the law requires us to do so or if it is necessary to protect someone from harm.

We do not sell your personal information.

Is your information sent to other countries?

Some of the companies that help us operate TeachEdge process information in other countries.

Some TeachEdge information is stored in Germany. Other information may be processed in the United States or elsewhere by our service providers.

When information is sent outside the UK, we use legal, contractual and technical safeguards designed to protect it.

How long do we keep your information?

TeachEdge keeps account and assessment information while you or your school are using the service.

Our policy is to delete this information within 12 months after use ends, or earlier if deletion is requested.

Some information may need to be kept for longer because of the law. Deleted information may also remain for a limited additional time in backups or provider safety records.

Information that has been fully anonymised and can no longer identify you may be kept for longer.

Does TeachEdge send marketing messages to students?

No. TeachEdge does not send marketing newsletters to student accounts.

We may send messages needed to operate an account, such as sign-in information, service alerts or important information about TeachEdge.

Newsletters and feature updates are sent only to teachers and other adult users. Every marketing newsletter includes an unsubscribe link.

Does TeachEdge track students for advertising?

No. TeachEdge does not use advertising tracking.

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the TeachEdge website and application. It is used on student-facing pages as well as other TeachEdge pages and loads automatically when a page is opened.

It may collect information such as:

  • which pages and features are used;
  • browser and device information;
  • approximate location;
  • the page from which someone arrived;
  • dates and times; and
  • IP addresses or other online identifiers.

We use this information to understand and improve TeachEdge. We do not use it to advertise to students.

Can someone under 18 have an account?

Yes. Students under 18 can use TeachEdge.

If your school manages your account, your use of TeachEdge is covered by the school’s arrangements.

A student under 18 can also have an independent TeachEdge account. If you are under 13 and want to use an independent account, you must have permission from a parent or guardian.

What rights do you have?

The law gives you rights over your personal information.

You can ask:

  • what information is held about you;
  • for a copy of your information;
  • for incorrect information to be corrected;
  • for information to be deleted when there is no proper reason to keep it;
  • for the use of your information to be limited;
  • for certain uses of your information to stop; or
  • for information you supplied to be provided electronically in certain circumstances.

It is always all right to ask a question about your information. You can ask a parent, carer, teacher or another trusted adult to help you.

Who should you contact?

If your account is managed by your school, speak to your teacher or contact your school. Your school is normally responsible for deciding how your information is used.

TeachEdge is a web-based education application used by teachers in UK secondary schools. Disclaimer: TeachEdge.ai is independent of, and not endorsed by, any examination board.

TeachEdge.ai is a UK-built platform that helps secondary teachers give better marking and feedback on essays and longer exam-style questions, without the copy-and-paste admin. It supports Class Marking for full class assignment workflows, Quick Mark for individual responses, and Exam Script Marking for scanned student responses.

As an AI teaching tool, TeachEdge supports AI assessment and AI feedback with teacher control. Teachers can set tasks for a class, students can submit through their own portal, or teachers can upload scanned responses through Exam Script Marking. TeachEdge produces draft marks and feedback calibrated to the relevant exam board. Manual release is the default in Class Marking; teachers can enable automatic release.

TeachEdge supports assessment across Economics, Business, Accounting, History, Psychology, Sociology, Law, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Politics, Geography, Classics, Criminology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Computer Science, English Language, English Literature, English Language & Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, Music, French, Spanish, Health & Social Care, and Food & Nutrition. Available qualifications, exam boards and question types vary by subject. The aim is simple: reduce marking load while making feedback clearer, more consistent, and more useful for students to act on — practical AI for teachers that fits normal classroom routines.

Teach Edge also includes personalised tutoring. Teachers set the topic and students work through a one-to-one conversation that starts with a short baseline check and then proceeds in a Socratic, scaffolded way. Crucially, teachers can review full conversations and see summaries of student understanding or misconceptions, including class-level patterns, so tutoring feeds directly back into teaching — another way Teach Edge supports AI feedback that teachers can trust and act on.
